His domed cast-iron creation, the K2, first appeared on London's streets in 1926 — Scott had actually proposed silver and blue, but the GPO insisted on red to help it stand out.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal\" dir=\"ltr\"\u003eA decade later, to mark King George V's Silver Jubilee, Scott designed a smaller, lighter version, the K6, which went on to become the most widely recognised model of all, with over 20,000 installed across Britain by 1940.
