Glass Ornament - Covent Garden
Covent Garden is one of London's best-loved corners — a cheerful, buzzing piazza filled with cobbled streets, café tables spilling onto pavements, flower stalls, boutique shops, and street performers charming crowds beneath its handsome Victorian colonnades.
That lively spirit has deep roots. The name itself comes from the medieval "garden of the Abbey and Convent" of Westminster Abbey, which once stood on the site. After the Great Fire of London in 1666, the whole square turned over to selling fresh fruit and vegetables, growing into London's largest market. The elegant piazza that still frames it today was designed for the Earl of Bedford by the architect Inigo Jones, setting the pattern for residential squares across the city. Street performers have graced the piazza since at least 1662, when the diarist Samuel Pepys recorded a puppet show taking place here — a tradition that carries on to this day.
This little glass ornament captures a touch of that cheerful charm, small enough to tuck onto the tree or slip into a stocking.
