Glass Ornament - St. Paul
St Paul's Cathedral has crowned London's skyline for over 300 years, its dome rising above Ludgate Hill much as it did when the city itself lay in ruins. The current cathedral was built after the Great Fire of London destroyed its medieval predecessor in 1666, and the new building, completed in 1710, was designed by Sir Christopher Wren in the English Baroque style.
Legend has it that as Wren cleared the old ruins, a workman handed him a broken piece of tombstone marked with a single word, RESURGAM — "I will rise again" — which Wren later had carved into the cathedral's south pediment beneath a stone phoenix. The cathedral has done exactly that ever since, surviving the Blitz to remain one of London's most enduring symbols.
This little glass ornament captures a touch of that resilience, small enough to tuck onto the tree or slip into a stocking.
