Wild Ginger
Medium Lacquer Tray - Albert Hall
Medium Lacquer Tray - Albert Hall
This hand-illustrated Wild Ginger tray, featuring original artwork by Simon Privett, celebrates the Royal Albert Hall, one of London's most treasured landmarks. Opened in 1871 and named in memory of Prince Albert, the Hall was conceived as a great arena for the arts and sciences, its domed glass roof and terracotta frieze standing as a monument to Victorian ambition and craftsmanship.
Its red brick exterior, sweeping amphitheatre, and famous mosaic frieze depicting the triumphs of art and science have made it a stage for the nation's musical life for over 150 years — most famously as home to the BBC Proms.
Lacquering began in China thousands of years ago. As Chinese goods and skills spread along trade routes, Korea, Japan, and Vietnam adopted the technique and developed their own unique styles. Every Wild Ginger tray follows this tradition and is carefully finished by hand using the same multilayered process handed down through generations.
Created as part of our London collection, honouring the buildings that hold the city's history and heart.
