Medium Lacquer Tray - Museums of London
London's museums are among the finest anywhere in the world, and remarkably, almost all of them are free to walk into. From ancient antiquities to dinosaur skeletons to five thousand years of design history, the city's collections cover almost every corner of human knowledge under one roof, or several.
The British Museum, founded in 1753 around Sir Hans Sloane's personal collection of over 80,000 objects, was the world's first national public museum, and its holdings have grown to around eight million objects since. Just down the road, the Natural History Museum began life as an overflow of that same collection, before splitting off to open its own doors in South Kensington in 1881. The V&A followed a different path entirely, founded in 1852 as a "schoolroom for everyone," built to improve British design and craftsmanship by putting the best examples of it on public display.
Featuring original artwork by Simon Privett, this tray brings together that spirit of curiosity and discovery in one piece — a lovely addition to any home, or a fitting gift for anyone who loves getting lost in a good museum.
