Pubs of Winchester Tea Towel
As one of England's oldest cities, Winchester has a pub history to match. The Royal Oak, tucked into the heart of the city, is reputed to house one of the oldest bars in England, with a cellar said to date back over a thousand years — a claim that speaks to just how long Winchester's inns and alehouses have been pouring pints for locals and travellers alike. By 1902, the city boasted some 132 pubs within its boundaries, a reflection of how central the local was to Winchester life.
Many of these historic buildings survive today, their timber frames and low beams carrying centuries of stories — from coaching inns and rectories turned alehouse, to the Wykeham Arms, tucked between the cathedral and Winchester College, once a favourite of scholars and clergy alike.
Featuring original artwork by Simon Privett, this tea towel brings a taste of that classic Winchester pub culture into the kitchen, making it a lovely everyday piece for anyone who loves a good local, or a thoughtful gift for a visitor to the city.
