Winchester Tea Towel (White)
Long before London became England's capital, that title belonged to Winchester. The city began as a Roman settlement, growing into one of the largest towns in Roman Britain, before rising to prominence as the capital of the Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Wessex. It was here that King Alfred the Great ruled from 871 to 899, defeating Viking invaders and building Winchester into a centre of learning and culture, and in 1066, William the Conqueror was crowned king of England in Winchester Cathedral.
That cathedral, one of the largest in Europe, was rebuilt by the Normans from 1079 and still dominates the city today. Jane Austen spent her final months in Winchester and is buried within its walls — one more layer in a city that has quietly shaped English history for close to two thousand years.
Featuring original artwork by Thain Lin, this tea towel brings a piece of that history into the kitchen, making it a lovely everyday memento for anyone who loves Winchester, or a thoughtful gift for a visitor to the city.
